Siam Thai Eatery Review

Nestled among the many restaurants on Michigan Ave is a hidden gem: Siam Thai Eatery. With just under 300 reviews on Google, Siam Thai Eatery has not yet been blown up by social media in the way many other Michigan Ave restaurants have—but the quality of its home-style Thai food makes it a solid contender for a future hit.

Interior

The interior features lots of greenery, almost resembling an enchanted garden. Pairing earthen tones and animal prints with gold and black diningware creates a modern, elegant feel while remaining rooted in nature.

Money Bag Dumplings

We started with the “Money Bag Dumplings”, which were warm, light, and crispy. Pairing them with a delicate plum sauce balanced the sweet and savory notes of the dish in a delightful manner. Pro tip: Save some leftover plum sauce for later dishes. For one of our main courses, we enjoyed the “Thai Chrispy Chicken”, which was extra flavorful when paired with the plum sauce.

The “Crispy Shrimp with Coconut Sauce” was a classic—elegantly plated and delicious. The shrimp was crispy, coconut-y, and toasted to perfection. The side salad was coated with a light coconut sauce that balanced out the denser, deep-fried shrimp nicely. The dish also came with a shrimp cracker, which, truthfully, was more fun to look at than to eat—but it added to the experience nonetheless.

Red Curry

The fan favorite of the night, by far, and my most recommended dish from this restaurant, was the red curry. For starters, I ended up getting two meals out of the dish, which, for thirty dollars, is a pretty sweet deal. The curry had a mild sweetness and coconut flavor, but its main notes were the spice of red chiles and garlic. I believe there were notes of lemongrass, too, which paired nicely. The chicken was also perfectly cooked. The biggest surprise of the dish, however, was the sweet lychees hidden throughout the dish (that I had originally thought were potatoes). I adored this curry and think of it often.

Overall, my experience at Siam Thai Eatery was excellent. The food is delicious and reasonably priced, and the service is exceptional. Its proximity to some of Chicago’s biggest attractions and its location on one of its busiest streets make it the perfect destination for a downtown adventure.
