Shang Noodle Review

Olivia Xiao

In the chilly downtown air, a bowl of noodles or sizzling pot of stir fry warms the soul. At Shang Noodle, the authentic and comforting dishes make it worth the visit. The space included decor that was based on a traditional theme but with a contemporary touch and polished wood. The dim lighting and warm colors created a perfect reflection of the food they served–largely authentic interspersed with classic western favorites.

The comforting restaurant interior

A unique feature of the menu at Shang Noodle is their selection of sizzling pot dishes. The sizzling pots are served hot on a burner and come with a large portion of hearty meats and vegetables. I got the green bean and pork sizzling pot, and although it was a bit bland at first, the bottom of the bowl contained sauce and oil that softened the green beans and made them burst with flavor. Once I mixed the bowl, the flavor distributed and complemented the fresh ingredients. Additionally, we ordered soup dumplings and a seafood noodle platter.

Sizzling pot with green beans

The soup dumplings tasted very authentic, full of savory soup and tender meat, and the noodles also came in a large portion and had a great bouncy texture. Additionally, they had a large selection of drinks with a colorful display of syrups and alcohol at the counter. There was a large selection of creative drinks on the menu, from “Purple Paradise” to “Moonstone Coconut Lemongrass Nigori Sake.” Next time I come, I will definitely try some of their creative drinks. Overall, this was a great experience and I would go back!
