Five Lattes for a Warm and Cozy Winter

Brown Sugar Matcha Latte

Ingredients:

  • 2 tsp matcha powder

  • 1 cup milk

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions:

  1. Whisk together matcha powder and 2 tbsp of milk in a glass.

  2. To make the brown sugar syrup, bring water to a boil in a small pot and add in the brown sugar. Cook until brown sugar is fully melted.

  3. In another glass, pour in the brown sugar syrup. Turn the glass horizontally and rotate, letting the brown sugar coat the sides of the glass.

  4. Heat up remaining milk in a pot until it reaches a simmer.

  5. Pour the matcha mixture into the glass with the brown sugar syrup, then pour the hot milk over the top. For a foamier drink, use a hand-held foamer to blend the milk before pouring into the cup.

Ruby Latte

Ingredients:

  • Thumb-sized piece of steamed or roasted red beet

  • 1 T Dutch-processed cocoa powder

  • 3/4 cup milk

  • 1/4 cup espresso

  • pinch of cinnamon

  • sweetener of choice, to taste (agave, honey, simple syrup)

Instructions:

  1. Blend together milk, cooked beet, cocoa powder, sweetener of choice, and cinnamon until smooth, then heat mixture in a small pot.

  2. Pour espresso into a cup, and follow with the milk mixture. For a foamier drink, use a hand-held foamer to blend the milk before pouring into the cup.

Golden Latte

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 tsp ground turmeric

  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1/8 tsp ground ginger

  • 3/4 cup milk

  • 1/4 cup espresso

  • 1 pitted Medjool date, or sweetener of choice, to taste (agave, honey, simple syrup)

Instructions:

  1. Heat milk in a small pot along with spices and sweetener of choice. If using the Medjool date, blend the warm milk mixture with the date until completely smooth.

  2. Pour the espresso in a cup, then pour the milk mixture over the top. For a foamier drink, use a hand-held foamer to blend the milk before pouring into the cup.

Coconut Latte

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup light coconut milk

  • 1/4 cup espresso

  • sweetener of choice, to taste (agave, honey, simple syrup)

  • 1/2 tbsp of sweetened, toasted coconut

  • optional: whipped cream

Instructions:

  1. Heat up coconut milk in a small pot along with sweetener of choice.

  2. Pour espresso into a cup, then follow with the milk mixture. For a foamier drink, use a hand-held foamer to blend the milk before pouring into the cup.

  3. If desired, top drink with whipped cream, and sprinkle coconut flakes on top.

Black Sesame Latte

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp ground toasted black sesame seeds

  • 3/4 cup milk

  • 1/4 cup espresso

  • sweetener of choice, to taste (honey, agave, simple syrup)

Instructions:

  1. Heat up milk in a small pot with ground sesame seeds and sweetener of choice.

  2. Pour espresso into a cup, and follow with the milk mixture. For a foamier drink, use a hand-held foamer to blend the milk before pouring into the cup.
